There is some big news hitting the SEO world.聽 There are studies showing the power of linking Facebook comments to your website.聽 As you have heard us mention several times, SEO has largely been influenced by content.聽 “Content is King!” We have yelled this from the roof tops to help clients understand the importance of adding content, content and a bit more content.

With the recent reports showing Google search results picking up Facebook comments, it is now a great way to link to articles on your website with a Facebook plugin.聽聽 Here is a quick example so this will make sense to everyone.

I write this blog post, don’t forget to leave a comment at the bottom of the page you see an area you can leave a comment with your Facebook login.聽 Now every time someone leaves a comment using the facebook extension, that text is indexed to my blog page.聽 So if you leave a comment saying “SEO is as crazy as purple dragons.” In theory, you could search that exact phrase within a few days on Google and see our blog post pop up.

This is very exciting due to the power of adding searchable content to a page.聽 If you are able to add a blog post which results on lots of talk through comments, all of this text is indexed and will help with your ranking authority.

Social Media–I don’t even know where to start with this blog entry. 聽 This is a new way of marketing and networking that has EXPLODED. 聽I never use all caps for a word, but there is no other way to describe social media and its power.

Myspace started out as one of the first premier social media websites. 聽It blew up over night. 聽Myspace was the perfect place to stay connected with your friends through a common website. 聽No more emailing each other, or chat rooms. 聽It took being “social” to new levels on the internet. 聽As fast paced as Myspace became, there as a lack of organizing your social groups. 聽There was no common feature to send messages to just one set of friends, or be able to create a business account and link it with your personal one. 聽With that lack of functionality, facebook was born.

Facebook has taken over the Myspace world. 聽With an much easier-to-use layout, group creating abilities…it trumped the big name that started the social media聽phenomenon. 聽Myspace began to see sharp drops in user numbers, while facebook could not believe the amount of new users created daily it was seeing.

The internet is an amazing tool to connect with information.聽 You can research the most sophisticated material out there.聽 Remember what it was like the first time you heard that you could bank online?聽 I bet 80% of people that first heard that back in 2001 said there is no way I would trust my banking needs to be met using the internet.聽 Now here we are 10 years later using the internet to arm our security system on our homes.

As the internet grows, so does the market place to make money.聽 There have been too many millionaires from great websites born overnight.聽 These brilliant minds have created a concept that is unique and makes people feel like they now can’t live without it.聽 Creating a great website is only the first part to the puzzle.

Often too many times we have seen some great ideas walk in our door asking what it would take to push an idea to a million dollars.聽 Unfortunately, most people we talk to seem to miss the most important part…TRAFFIC.聽聽 People, you can not make money if no one knows you exist.聽 Once the know you exist, how are they going to find you?

In a perfect world, with lots of startup cash (I know most don’t have it) this is what I would do:

1. Facebook: I would build an amazing landing page.聽 One that captures interest and drives them to “like” my page.聽 This is so powerful, because of the fact you can continually re-market to them everyday!聽 How amazing is that .聽 You dump some cash into fb ads…get some fans… then market to them daily and give them a great reason to recommend your page to all of their friends.
2. Website: This should go without being said.聽 I didn’t want to assume anything, but you have to create a nice website that shows off who you are.聽 Give folks some excitement about your brand and who you are.
3. Re-target banner ads:聽 This is very cool.聽 You can embed a cookie in your website for your visitors to automatically download into their browsers.聽 Once those visitors leave your website, your cookie “speaks” to the banner ad network and it will show your banner ad over and over to each visitor.聽 They will feel as if your banner ad is following them.聽 I can’t tell you enough on how great this tool is.
4. SEO: Obviously, based on my rant above, you knew SEO would be on my list of To-Dos.聽 You HAVE TO rank well organically in the search engines to really make a huge impact.聽 It is too important not to.聽 Essentially you are having the search engines recommend you do their loyal users.聽 The search engines are saying “Hey, I know you are looking for ‘Bright Green Hats’ so here is who I recommend for you.”

Internet marketing is most effective when it is promoted in multiple areas. 聽Most times we get so concerned about being found on Google (which is HUGE) that we forget the simples things of business. 聽 Help promote your online effort is some offline areas of your business. 聽Mashable.com did a great job coming up with the 5 best ways to do this.

1. When you run ads or specials, be sure to include some very useful online shortcuts…Web Address, Twitter, Facebook and maybe a quick link QR Code.
2. Make your business cards social media friendly. 聽Give your customers some more options to connect with you online. 聽 When someone adds you as a connection on Linkedin, you now have their info for a follow-up. 聽It is much less invasive than a hard sell phone follow-up.
3. Use your car bumper as a Twitter billboard. 聽As you a driving from appointment to appointment, let your twitter handle get promoted to future customers you are passing.
4. Host a blog party. 聽Take the time to invite other businesses you associate yourself with to host a blogging seminar where you all take the time to do business reviews and writeups on each other. 聽This is a great way to get more backlinks and get to tell a more meaningful story behind your business to others.
5. Get creative- Take some time to brainstorm on creative ways to draw attention to your online business. 聽Here are just a quick idea to get the ball rolling…Make T-shirts that have your twitter handle on the back, with a QR code leading to your flickr account page.
