Winning seems to be the common word these days from all of the attention that Charlie Sheen has received. 聽When asked if he was Bi-Polar, he responded by saying he was “Bi-Winning.” 聽With so much attention from that response, he has relentlessly used the term “Winning” over and over again. 聽It lead me to a deep ponder on what is “Winning.” 聽How do we know when we are winning? 聽What do we have to sacrifice to win. 聽There most definitely is going to be a sacrifice to win. 聽Sometimes it requires a lot of money. 聽Other times it might just be a matter of a time commitment. 聽Anyway you look at it though, there is a price to be paid…to win.
Just a recap for you on companies in the past month who have seen success in online results, but did it at the wrong price. 聽A giant in retail goods, JC Penney, lost big time because they got caught trying to win by聽sacrificing聽the right price. 聽Reports by the New York Times suggest that JCPenney paid an SEO company out of Texas to manage their SEO efforts and make sure that the popular ecommerce site, JCPenney.com was at the top of the search engines for millions of products they sold. 聽Google was notified of some sketchy behavior by some New York Times reporters inquiring on how it is possible to rank #1 for sooo many phrases. 聽Upon further investigation, Google found the company guilty of using “black hat” tactics. 聽By spamming and participating in unethical link farming, JCPenney was聽penalized聽by the search engine giant, Google. 聽To read the full investigation, the New York Times, wrote a great article citing exactly what happened and what to look for when working with a good “White Hat” SEO firm.
So again, I pose the question of at what price are we winning? 聽I am sure JCP made millions for a few years by this unethical measure on the internet. 聽Was it worth it? 聽Could it cripple their image? 聽Probably not. 聽Take the time to make sure that if you are going to spend the time and money to聽aggressively聽win, you should do it at the right price. 聽Winning at the right price is priceless!
